That is what the British government will borrow from the banks who have no money who do actually cos the government who don't have any really lent it to them so they could lend it to the goverment. An invisible yo-yo. so when they lose the next general election the Tories will be in a no win situation in trying to recover the damage done in their four short years. New Labour (meaning the antithesis of the old Labour that which John Smith was leader, God bless his pure soul, until he got bumped off so bliar puppet blair got his hands on the feign reigns of the reindeer from hell.) will continue to work under the European parliament will by then have total control of the British laws and an even bigger amalgamation will occur heading ever nearer towards a new world order.

I'm off to watch Auf Wiedershen Pet.

Good night

and sweet dreams within the nightmare.

Question:

Where did the expression 'pound' come from? What's the origin of that?

******************

The pound ( £ ) was so called because the currency in Anglo Saxon times as so many things....was based on weight.
Ie........240 ' sterling ' silver coins weighed one pound. Hence the term ' Pounds Sterling ' which is the correct terminology.

Before decimilization in 1971, there were 240 ' pennies ' to the pound. 12 pence to the shilling and 20 shillings to the pound.

One guinea was 21 shillings..............I believe the terminology is still used among the horse-racing fraternity.
