As the symbol of China and the logo of the Worldwide Fund for Nature, panda gets a special treatment in wildlife conservation efforts. Chris Packham believes it's time to invest the money funding the pandas elsewhere.

Full article here: Pull the plug on Panda?

Pandas are the cutest creatures in the animal world but this is no reason for people to continually pour millions of dollars on their conservation, some naturalists say. What do you think?

I don't want to see any animal face extinction. I prefer healthy populations within any animal species. How do you feel about culling over abundant animals such as seals? BTW . Cute is no reason for saving an animal although I agree that they are cute. I want ugly animals such as Komodo Dragons to have healthy populations to.

The argument is not new, I certainly have copped some flak years ago for the suggestion that by not saving the Californian condor (for whom little natural country is left, anyway) you could fund , at that time, almost all the most urgent conservation efforts in Africa. I certainly think it is reasonable to ask about conservation priorities. People know about pandas and mountain gorillas (both of whom while rare are the subjects of healthy funds raised by ecotourism) but few have ever heard of some of the rarest monkey species in the world that live in Vietnam and neighbouring countries (also home to the rarest of rhinoceroses and wild cattle) or of the problems on Madagascar.
