I'm definitely the tie dye wearing, acid rock/metal solar electric guitar playing hippie war hero type environmentalist who showers every other day and is a conservative Constitutionalist Deist. I also wear Jimi Hendrix, KISS and Iron Maiden T-shirts.
As far as I can tell, environmentalists tend to be higher educated, smarter, and more moral human beings, but still not all have only one or no child, build Earthship or straw bale eco-homes or live on alternative power, unfortunately. Some of us plant trees, and some of us cut them down when necessary. Some of us believe in use of deadly force to defend our country from invasion, keep our representative Republic from being attacked, or protect the freedom of others from communists, radical islamics, and totalitarian malevolent dictators.
I don't drink or smoke dope, either, but my guitar playing will put you on a trip. I love God, guns, and rock and roll. I'm a peace through better firepower hippie. My hybrid vehicle is 4 wheel drive, too.

I have found that most , even though they went through a course that part of was about habitat/ecology, can not come to grips with understanding AGW or human gross overpopulation. They may understand conservation of game habitat, and restrictions variable with game populations, but in their own lives can not apply conservation or the environmental philosophy of reduce, re-use, and recycle. Even a lot of self proclaimed environmentalists don't totally understand or practice those principles, at least sufficiently to make a real difference.

I do agree with Iowanic that enviro-types comes from all backgrounds. I've read in an article that there are 4 types of hippie types. Although I must say that if you're going to ask me I'm the downplayed version since it suits my personality and I think this type is humbly among 4. The downplayed version type is reflected more by their environment-friendly, tree-hugging advocacies, rather than through their political and societal idealisms. Aside from that I'm also a vegetarian and they are like that as well. They simply focus on love for the environment and clean, healthy things. They are lighter and brighter hippies.
