Why? Agree or not, they are exercising their right to free speech and as so, are protected under the United States Constitution.

As far as free speech goes, I think this comes under something similar to yelling fire in a crowded theater. They extremely upset the family of the fallen soldier and other soldiers and veterans, too, who have to right to honor their dead. Their rights are violated by those supposedly practicing their 1st amendment rights. The rights of one group end where they violate the rights of another group. If they wish to properly protest, they can do it, with permission, in such a manner where it does not violate others' rights.

The same as yelling fire in a crowded theater? Don't think so Johnny as you're not causing anyone to potentially be harmed by a stampeding crowd.

What they're doing is legal....bottom line. Some States, such as Indiana and Michigan have responded by making laws to prevent protests within 500ft of a funeral service, or cemetery. If you don't think that is good enough write your representatives to make that distance further.

Until such time the Westboro groups are assembling and voicing their freedom of speech as much as the Nazis do from time to time.
