AMSTERDAM -- Despite 20 years of effort, greenhouse gas emissions are going up instead of down, hitting record highs as climate negotiators gather to debate a new global warming accord.

The new report by the International Energy Agency showing high emissions from fossil fuels is one of several pieces of bad news facing delegates from about 180 countries heading to Bonn, Germany, for two weeks of talks beginning Monday.

Yes, HGHGs have gone from going up at 2% per year to 3%. Orgs like 350.com and others vie to get the emissions down to no avail. According to Hansen, there is still another half degree Celsius of warming in momentum of the system, even if all fossil fuel burning suddenly stopped. According to the DVD "Blind Spot", we either stop burning fossil fuels, with the result of destroying our growth only economy, or we face ecological collapse. We're between a rock and a hard spot, and it is doubtful that any political group will do anything to destroy their economy, or go through the painful process of conversion to steady state eco-economics. :-({|= :-({|= :-({|=
