I would like to bring to your attention the horror that is 'roller' pigeons.

These pigeons are bred specifically for their ability to 'roll' backwards on the floor. This is caused by a genetic defect resulting in spasmodic movements and an inability to fly.

Another breed is able to fly, doing backwards somersaults in the air. These birds frequently crash land, resulting in death.

I believe these birds should be banned, breeding them is like breeding humans for epilepsy. These birds are deprived of flight, the very essence of being a bird.

The following video shows a 'roller' pigeon in action:

The Parlor Roller is a breed of domesticated pigeon developed over many years of selective breeding. Parlor Rollers, along with other varieties of domesticated pigeons, are all descendants from the Rock Pigeon (Columba livia).[1] The breed is known for its unique performance of turning somersaults on the ground. Parlor Rollers are considered to be further development from the Parlor Tumbler.

just have to make a slight correction... "parlor rollers" are not the same thing as "rollers". Rollers are a breed of pigeon that flys very well but as a flock will go into a dive to achieve high speed and do it voluntarily (basically for fun). Several of our normal pigeons would join in the dives of our one roller so they enjoyed it too but rollers do it more often an as a group. Parlor rollers cannot fly but without a physical reason so these poor birds are really messed up in the head (and definitely not the rollers I knew about before seeing this thread).
