Hausch said the EV market is divided roughly into four consumer segments: geeks, greens, gloaters and grazers.

Geeks are early adopters who love electric vehicle technology, while greens are environmentally aware consumers who want to reduce their carbon footprint.

Gloaters are vehicle enthusiasts who care a lot about design, and grazers are cost-conscious people who count every penny spent on gas

this article is about one particular electric car but the quote and categories can be applied to all major "green" technologies.

In terms of "green" building technologies, I would be a bit of a "gloater" because I want to make films and brag in the film credits and advertizements to producers (who may rent my facilities) that my facilities are the greenest. I have been thinking of this stuff since I was about 4 years old so I am definitely in the "geek" category. Pre-production on films has almost zero materials costs but has 100s of thousands of man-hours of creative work. Being utilities-free will go a long way to funding an independently funded film. This puts me clearly in the "grazer" category as my primary motivation of the four. My point in saying this is to suggest that the whole "save the environment" movement might actually be counter-productive as people dismiss these great technologies as something for tree-huggers rather then something that will positively affect their bottom line.

Happy Earth Day, Ann, and everyone. I guess I am all four. One child, solar power, Earthship, gardens, composters, hybrid Mercury Mariner 4WD with Nav, DVD, CD and Sirius, regenerative braking, leather seats with warmers, and 6 airbags (front, sides, and ceiling), in Kiwi Green. In the mountains, getting warmer with AGW, and with nature and wildlife. Deer friends, squirrel and bird friends, flower friends and tree friends. They all love my psychedelic rock/blues/metal guitar playing. Soon, my custom made "Madeline" Symphonie Hurdy Gurdy with trompette will arrive, and they will all love that, too!!!! O:) :- \:D/
