The magic of blueberries....

'I read your article about cataracts and thought I'd tell you about my wife who was told that she had cataracts in both eyes by Vision Express.
She was then advised that taking blueberries was good for the eyes.
She started taking blueberries and pure blueberry juice daily and after a year returned to Vision Express and was told she no longer had cataracts
- Ted Burke, Letters page. Mature Times.

and marigolds....

that link suggests that blackberries are 3 times more effective as blueberries (for antioxidant properties anyways).
Reading a bit about blueberries, I found that bilberries is a type of blueberry (many species in two genus) and bilberries were also mentioned in that link: "Bilberries contain antioxidant compounds known asanthocyanins..." I always look for ways to grow or raise or make anything that I might want to consume on a regular basis. There is a species of blueberry that grows in my area (but on a different soil type) and I have seen people grow blackberries here with a bit of soil alteration.

Yes, the bilberry is the European cousin of the American blueberry.
In World War Two RAF bomber crews reported that their night vision improved significantly after eating bilberry jam.

Blueberries, bilberries and blackberries - all are excellent, for your eyes and your general health.
