The United States (general motors) was the first to come out with an electric production car called the impact or later on the EV1. General Motors had an excited crowd around the EV1 and then proceeded to kill it. Instead now we have the Japanese being the first to come out with an electric car that will power your home in an outage. We are being drug down by our fossil fuel wealth. It's time to kick them in the pants.

Here’s a little secret that Fox News does not get about renewable energy.

The image climate deniers would like to promote of the typical electric car/solar roof customer is that of the sandal wearing, tofu eating, lefty, socialist, green weenie. In fact, a good part of the early adopters are going to be from precisely the opposite end of the political spectrum. One of the major appeals of distributed generation, and the idea of producing one’s own energy, is the deeply embedded dislike and distrust Americans have for big business, big government, and big energy.

Tell the most hard core, right wing Tea Party member that there’s a way he or she can make their household more energy independent – more able to weather storms, blackouts, brownouts, or even terrorist attacks in a world of asymmetrical warfare, and they want to know more. This demographic is actually larger than the stereotypical green consumer.

I would probably come close to that hard core, right wing type of individual and I wouldn't even consider getting a Nissan Leaf and the load center to power my house from it. Just too darned much money! At $35,000 for a little electric car and another $4 to 5 grand for the load center? I've got a diesel car that gets great mileage and a diesel stand by generator for the house and paid a third of what that would cost me!

I don't think we've explored using turbo charged diesel and gasoline engines enough yet. Europe has something like 40 to 50% of their cars running on diesel. There's a reason for that folks....they're economical.

I'm a right wing green gun toting Tea Party America First guy and I am independent with self installed solar power(when it was 3 times more money!), a self built, all trades house and Earthship that took a REAL man to build(NO mortgage any more!). I'm a decorated veteran, former master aviator and master carpenter/multi-tradesman, pissed off at the government, people like dumb overbreeders, and over-consuming/depleting polluters, corporate and personal. I had one child later in life because I knew about overpopulation back in 1967! I've watched this country turn to crap from over-immigration and immigration of types that never built this country. We are paying for garbage LBJ and Ted Kennedy did with the replacement of the perfectly good 1924 Immigration Quota Act, and taking our money out of SS Individual Accounts and putting it into the General Fund, forcing the growth only, unsustainable economy on us. We are paying for Reagan's being a nice guy and giving amnesty then not enforcing our border and laws, with his stupid infinite Earth adviser, Julian Simon. Plus beginning the habit of raises to government workers to get their votes. I drive a hybrid that gets 31 mpg and is 4WD (6Kmiles per year). I have a diesel tractor with 5' loader and 8' backhoe, and a little dirt bike that both don't get much use. So, I still need oil, but my eco-footprint is 1/20th the average American. If everyone was like me we would not be in this predicament of AGW with overpopulation and a weakened country losing its heritage, culture forged in WWII, intelligence, and patriotism.     8) =D> =D> =D>

I'd like to still be driving a car with the performance and refinement of that 12-cylinder Jaguar. But, with the price of fuel here, the running cost can't be justified and it would be a bit irresponsible in terms of pollution too.
