Climate Change: Years of Living Dangerously
Posted on 5 December 2013 by Rob Painting

"James Cameron, the creator and director of many smash hit movies, has teamed up with producer Jerry Weintraub to make a television series on climate change for the Showtime television channel. The series, according to the promotional trailer below, seems to focus of the human story of climate change - how climate has already begun to impact the lives of people all around the world.

In the trailer, James Cameron says:

"Everybody thinks this is about melting glaciers and polar bears. I think it's a big mistake. This is one hundred per cent a people story"

I believe he's right. Even though Skeptical Science's core message is about the observational evidence underpinning the science of climate change, facts alone are unlikely to be enough to turn public opinion around. People remember human stories better than facts and figures, so examining the impacts of climate change on people around the world may leave a longer-lasting impression on viewers.

Indeed, if there's one thing that is guaranteed to shift public opinion into combating climate change, it's the warm, clammy, hand of reality intruding upon your own personal life. Whether that's in the form of more frequent and extreme heat waves, more extreme downpours, more intense drought and bushfires, or rising sea levels amplifying current flood risk many times over. Whatever form it takes, climate change is going to, at some point, intrude upon all our lives in a very detrimental way."

Honestly fence sitters do you want to be associated with this? Honestly true believers how can you stand by and let the cause you believe in first and foremost participate in the worst sort of propaganda?

http://washington.cbslocal.com/2013/12/ ... l-warming/

This is even worse than the 10 10 videos. And, fence sitters if you don't know what I'm talking about here. Link provided below. This is the kind of worse popular tripe that passes with the true believers. How do you feel about it? Do you want to associate yourself with this crap?

We allow people like yourself to regurgitate tripe like this too.

More and more people are beginning to catch on. How about you fence sitters?

http://blog.heartland.org/2013/12/nobel ... -journals/

Quote:
UC-Berkeley professor and 2013 Nobel Prize winner Randy Schekman says his lab will no longer send papers to Nature, Cell and Science as they distort scientific process.

This article reveals that leading scientists know that the “prestige” academic journals are biased in favor of flashy and politically correct research findings, even when such findings are frequently contradicted by subsequent research. This is important in the context of the global warming debate because Nature and Science have published the most alarmist and incredible junk on global warming and refuse to publish skeptics. (Full disclosure: Nature ran a negative editorial about us a few years back, and a much better but still inaccurate feature story.) Claims of a “scientific consensus” rely heavily on the assumption that expertise can be measured by how often a scientist appears in one of these journals. Now we know that’s a lie.

If we apply the same criteria to the "expert" writing the blog we see some interesting additions:

He says experts can be wrong because:

1. Pandering to audience or client

2. Lack of oversight

3. Automaticity (assuming every problem has the same solution)

4. Flawed evidence (rely on other scientists for data)

5. Careerism (publish or perish, never admit mistakes)

6. Publication bias

7. Confounding variables

8. Conflicts of interest

Thus the author of the blog must therefore possibly be wrong for the very same reasons .....

How about it fence sitters.

Quote:
CAIRO -- Snow coated domes and minarets Friday as a record Middle East storm compounded the suffering of Syrian refugees, sent the Israeli army scrambling to dig out stranded motorists and gave Egyptians a rare glimpse of snow in their capital.

Nearly three feet of snow closed roads in and out of Jerusalem, which is set in high hills, and thousands in and around the city were left without power. Israeli soldiers and police rescued hundreds trapped in their cars by snow and ice. In the West Bank, the branches of olive trees groaned under the weight of snow.

In Cairo, where local news reports said the last recorded snowfall was more than 100 years ago, children in outlying districts capered in white-covered streets, and adults marveled at the sight, tweeting pictures of snow-dusted parks and squares. In other parts of the city, rain and hail rocketed down.

You did not really reference an individual weather event as some indication of climate did you?

A demonstration once again that AGW, with all the additional energy it puts into the climate system, really does produce extreme weather events of all sorts , like bikini weather in the arctic.

We have not seen snow in Egypt for 100 years and....

http://www.space.com/23934-weak-solar-c ... ather.html

Quote:
Our star is now at "solar maximum," the peak phase of its 11-year activity cycle. But this solar max is weak, and the overall current cycle, known as Solar Cycle 24, conjures up comparisons to the famously feeble Solar Cycle 14 in the early 1900s, researchers said.

"None of us alive have ever seen such a weak cycle. So we will learn something," Leif Svalgaard of Stanford University told reporters here today (Dec. 11) at the annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union

Fence sitters this is very interesting.

Sorry Dingo you can't have it both ways.

A + B = C

A equals rising CO2. B equals rising temperatures as a result of A. Equals AGW or C. This is exactly what the true believers state is happening. This is the AGW theory is it not?

Because of my example you want the equation to be A + -B to still = C. In this elemental example of this equation it just can't work this way. The additional energy in the system (heat) cause by a trace gas as you state cannot cause record cold events. Thermal dynamics just doesn't work that way.

Weather is very different from climate and increasing AVERAGES due to the energy retention of that "trace gas" does not preclude weather anomalies in both directions. Those without a firm basis in science will make such errors. Those "trace gases" are responsible for the temperature on Earth being warm enough to maintain liquid water and life as we know it instead of being a blue ball of ice with an average temperature of ~−18 °C.

Fence sitters know this and know it well. It's all about the gravy train with those above the true believers. It's all about the money.

http://investigations.nbcnews.com/_news ... -feds?lite

Quote:
When he first began looking into Beale’s deceptions last February, “I thought, ‘Oh my God, How could this possibly have happened in this agency?” said EPA Assistant Inspector General Patrick Sullivan, who spearheaded the Beale probe, in an interview with NBC News. “I’ve worked for the government for 35 years. I’ve never seen a situation like this.”

Note. His deceptions reported in this story have nothing to do with climate research. But, I strongly suggest that be investigated as well in regards to this man. How can someone so dishonest be involved in advice about policy. Gravy train. Research doesn't matter. Policy doesn't matter. Gravy train that's what matters the most.

It looks like some concoction you cooked up. 'A' results in more energy into the earth system. In the long run that will result in rising average temperature for the earth as a whole. In the short term it will more aggressively move weather systems around in all sorts of directions, including northern cold systems southward, resulting sometimes in record cold temperatures for particular places at specific times of the year.

Anthropogenic Global Warming(AGW) refers to the average temperature for the whole earth for a year trending upwards over the long term as CO2 increases. I know denialists have a lot of trouble getting their head around that and end up deciding it is all a worldwide socialist conspiracy to take away their property and place them under a tyranny. Surprising how often ignorance requires a conspiracy to explain why they can't understand something or if not ignorance but denial and accusation to divert from the implications of an uncomfortable reality.
