The lotus is the most beautiful flower, whose petals open one by one. But it will only grow in the mud.
In order to grow and gain wisdom, first you must have the mud - the obstacles of life and its suffering ...
The mud speaks of the common ground that humans share, no matter what our stations in life ...
Wheter we have it all or have nothing, we are all faced with the same obstacles: sadness, loss, illness, dying and death. If we are to strive as human beings to gain more wisdom, more kindness and more compassion, we must have the intention to grow as a lotus and open each petal one by one
- Goldie Hawn

It ill behoves us to invoke in our daily prayers the blessings of God, the Compassionate, if we in turn will not practice elementary compassion towards our fellow creatures

Here are the values that I stand for: honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you want to be treated and helping those in need.
To me, those are traditional values.
- Ellen DeGeneres

Whoever is spared personal pain must feel himself called to help in diminishing the pain of others. We must all carry our share of the misery which lies upon the world

Believe, when you are most unhappy, that there is something for you to do in the world. So long as you can sweeten another's pain, life is not in vain.

To understand the heart and mind of a person, look not at what he has already achieved, but at what he aspires to

There is a candle in your heart, waiting to be kindled.
There is a void in your soul, ready to be filled.
You feel it, don't you?

Compassion hurts. When you feel connected to everything, you also feel responsible for everything. And you cannot turn away. Your destiny is bound with the destiny of others.
You must either learn to carry the Universe or be crushed by it.
You must grow strong enough to love the world, yet empty enough to sit down at the same table with its worst horrors
- Andrew Boyd

You give but little when you give of your possessions.
It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.

Non-violence leads to the highest ethics which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages
