I'm jumping into this conversation after merely skimming it, so I'm not going to argue about it, I'm just going to list a series of facts I've observed in my life with people I know.

I'm just saying, industry can be a lot worse than most people think. In small towns in the US, it's absolutely normal for factory supervisors to laugh at environmental and safety regulations. I've worked at places that openly game the system and destroy their workers' health, have solar panels on display that aren't connected to anything, condense dangerous week-long training courses into 20 minutes, only replace air filters a week before they're inspected, etc. The majority of factories I've seen do this. The majority of people I work with suffer from chronic health problems as a result of their jobs, or have suffered serious injuries in the past.

I find that some people act like this is all just theory whenever the hard choices come up. As soon as we start talking about things like birth limits or abandoning technology/industry, they act like it's a philosophical debate instead of a practical one. Or they act as if listing one negative thing about primitive life negates the whole option. That's not right.

It is absolutely a practical debate. These are serious potential solutions.

I can't speak for other people, but I'm going to get out and see if I can live a mostly primitive nomadic lifestyle somewhere. I'm doing it carefully and gradually, accounting for the ways the Earth has changed, but I'll definitely try it. It's been two years, and the more I get into it, the more I find that the risks of primitive life are dramatically exaggerated, whereas the risks of industrial life are normalized and downplayed.

If a few people are abnormal then society can check and stop the abnormal behaviour........But if 50% of population becomes abnormal and that 50% is also running the system then abnormality becomes the normality.......Today 50% of world population is urban (It varies from country to country)........This population is running and promoting industrial activity.

Consumerism is directly proportional to percentage of urban population.
Destruction of environment is directly proportional to percentage of urban population.
Insanity, abnormality and criminality is directly proportional to percentage of urban population.

For millions of years "searching for food" / "producing food" was the main occupation.......The urban population of industrial society is producing and selling consumer goods.

It is good to know that you are planning to live a simple non-industrial life........You should do what gives you peace and happiness........Industrial society is on the verge of total collapse.

Pre-industrial wars were fought face-to-face, on foot or horse-back, with swords and spears.........Industrial weapons can kill from thousands of kilometers away....... Bombs and missiles can decimate people from a distance.

Wars have happened on earth for thousands of years.........But there is a world of difference between pre-industrial wars and industrial wars.

Comparing pre-industrial wars with industrial wars is like comparing the Lamp with the Sun.

More people have died in hundred years of wars after industrialization (20th century) than in thousands of years of wars before industrialization.

World wars happened only after industrialization.........World wars were not possible in pre-industrial society.

In pre-industrial society war and violence was mostly localized.......In pre-industrial society countries in one continent could not have caused war and violence in countries of another continent.

Even religious conflicts have been aggravated by industrialization and urbanization...........In pre-industrial society people of one race and religion mostly stayed in one region because of the absence of industrial transportation........This minimized religious conflicts.

For most of humanoid history, predation, then self predation, kept numbers low enough. Wars were fought for territory and resources, but ended up advancing the species. The weak and ugly did not reproduce.
Mass amounts began being slaughtered with swords, pikes and arrows. Then peaceful religion reduced the total to less than enough to stop a geometric population rise. Then technology made wars more non-selective and governments sent in their best and left the worst to reproduce. Negative evolution.
The beginning of a world growth only economy, backed by technology and industrialization, greed, taking and using resources far faster than they could be replenished or their wastes absorbed.
You can grow bacteria in a petri dish until they die off after geometric growth to starvation. Yeast goes until it dies of its waste alcohol. Humans are too much like yeast and bacteria, or other mammals that fall into the stimulated population trap.
There is no doubt that industrialization was a stimulant factor, and its exhaust has initiated an approaching thermal maximum series of events. This includes stopping industrialization and civilization, by mass die off and extinction on a Permian scale.
It would be nice to go back to the way it was 11,000 years ago, but that is only a fantasy. Our brains were not good enough (on global average) to control our numbers and habits, or foresee the consequences of actions far into the future.

Depletion of key resources, huge plastic pollution including PVC in enough quantity to be far worse than radioactive waste, fallout from filthy coal burning including mercury and other toxins, chemical farming with polluting mechanization, slash and burn agriculture and over intensive agriculture, with way too many animals, from the demands of overpopulation. Dead zones up to over 100, and ocean fisheries declining rapidly with coral die off and jellyfish overpopulation, from CO2 of all the human caused exhaust gases. From the veil of soot from burning cook fires, to far too many jet aircraft and diesel trucks and ships, far too many people heating homes in the wrong places, and too many vehicles spewing pollution.
Well, society will not life forever, our vector is extinction. It is too late to change enough in time, and we have inadvertently set off a chain reaction of tipping points of positive feedback loop completion. It was determined that open ocean from CO2 warming started runaway in 2007, which leads to a large methane increase rapidly and exponential heating beyond the survivability of all except extremophobe life (and maybe even those).
It would have been good to foresee what ingenuity to non-fossil fueled industrialization would do in the long run---overpopulation. Plus, what the burning of black smelly fossil fuels for even more industrialization would do----a thermal maximum extinction event.
Why didn't wise elders from those times speak out against the change from agrarian to industrial society? Perhaps they did and were killed for the greed of the few and the needs of the too many.
We are now on a planetary death ride in most of our lifetimes. It will probably be business as usual until the end. Those that committed planetary murder, also kill the people that understand and live green, and their own children's children.
