You have both an avatar gallery and the ability to upload avatars included in your profile, and yet neither work.

Is this intentional, or a mistake?

It's more of an oversight, with a lack of enthusiasm for implementing the feature. I'd like to put together a nature collection of avatars, but just haven't had the time. The only collections I can find are cartoon-like icons which are kind of cheesy.

If anyone has ideas, please let me know.

This is nice to know, since I've spent the last two hours getting an avatar sized small enough to upload, then resorting to trying to call one up from a remote site.
~Wide sheepish smile~ I probably needed the practice. :)

Did it let you upload the avatar? I haven't spent that much time messing around with it yet, so I have no idea how it really works (or doesn't).

It uploaded an avatar with a small file successfully, but it did not display it. :)

I think I've figured out how to call up an image. (Edited since I've found out we're not supposed to upload images to our posts.)

Ok, Avatars are now working (as you can see from my goofy picture to the left). You can upload your own image (there is a limit on file size and height/width). I am going to leave this in place until I see abuses starting to happen.

Just to be clear, any obscene or completely offensive (in my opinion) photos will not be tolerated and will result in your account privileges being revoked.

If anyone knows of any good collections of 45x45 or 80x80 images that would be appropriate as a general set for this site, please contact me directly.

Thanks for your input!

Hey Josh,

Scooter has a better avatar picture than you do, why is that?

If I find any devils I might try, otherwise I would be one of those you deleted .... :P

Heh... clearly I am not the eye candy I once was. ;-)

The photo comes from an article written about me a while back: http://www.knauergroup.com/press/042400-fortune.html

Maybe I should just go with my old standby and put up a picture of my dogs. They are much cuter than I am.

On the internet, no one knows you're a dog... until you post a picture of yourself. Woof! For the record, this is Simon, who is one of my dogs: Image

Simon was adopted from the Animal Rescue League of Western PA.

You hadn't told us you are an environmental hero! Hurray for you, and thanks for getting the avatar thingy going. You're the greatest! Oh, uh, does the size limit apply to any pictures we may upload onto our posts, or just to the avatars? :?:

I think the size limit is just for uploading of Avatar images. Since we don't allow uploading of regular images for postings (you can only link to them), there's no limit on size there.

Thank you, Satan Jr., you're almost as sweet as your dad. I'll look around and see if I can help you find something suitable. Don't worry, it won't be a picture of a cow patty.

Oh, okay, thanks for the clarification, Josh. We should have some fun with these! :D
