You're going on a three hour road trip.. what do you bring?

I'm wondering if anyone is as weird as me and brings just themselves and their purse/wallet. Shoot.. unless I'm going to be gone somewhere overnight I don't take anythnig except my purse and cell phone.. depending on where I go I might take my camera too.

Apparently I don't know how to go on a road trip right... either that or I need to find different traveling companions. Picture this.. you're in a van full of people (three adults, two kids ages 10 and 11) and the following has been packed for a three hour road trip:
4 1 liter bottles of soda (woo-hoo! Lets get everyone hopped up on sugar and caffiene)
10 bottles of water (thirsty much?!)
2 boxes of fruit snacks (in case someone doesn't like one box they can open the other?)
2 cans of pringles (cause once you pop.. you can't stop?!)
2 boxes of crackers (err.. yeah)
2 coloring pads
2 boxes of crayons/pencils/pens
1 laptop
5 discs for laptop
2 portable cd players with headphones
3 cellphones
3 digital cameras
1 bag of "just in case" stuff like bandaids, hand sanitizer, etc.
4 hats (I'm to sexy for a hat.. to sexy for a hat)
2 bottles of sunscreen (cause you never know if you want spf 100000 or spf 99,999)
1 portable dvd player
2 dvd's
an assortment of books
and a partridge in a pear tree.

For three hours? Dang.. I remember when I was 7 and the family took a road trip from San Diego, CA to Chicago, IL and we only took suitcases with clothes and maybe a couple of books.

That's ridiculous. Everything I typically carry anyway is fine for me on a three hour road trip. Of course, I hope to have someone else drive so I can sleep or look at scenery anyway.

Oh man. I love driving, especially long distances.. and preferably on country type roads without tons of traffic.

Long rides put me to sleep too (if I'm not driving). If I'm not driving I usually have the camera ready to snap pictures along the way. I wish I had my Fuji instead of the stupid kodak this weekend.. I hate having to wait for the camera to focus itself before getting a shot.

Driving is what puts me to sleep. Now that can be fun.

I enjoy driving (especially with the new car ), but long trips can be mundane. The worst was a 22 hour trip to North Carolina. We only stopped for gas and food since we had birds with us. If it weren't for the nice changes in scenery during the day, I would have gone nuts.

Birds? *perk* What kind of birds?

The longest trip for me was the move from San Diego to The Springs. That was an experience in itself.. let me tell you something, you know how you rate in the family if you get to be the last car in the four vehicle caravan. If I ever write my life story I'm going to title it "I wouldn't follow you if I were dead in a casket and you are driving the hearse".

I did a 10 hour drive with Puffy Dog a couple weeks after I got my car back in 2002. That was fun. I kind of liked having her for company and it was a rather scenic drive through AZ. Thats when I learned my car can go over 110miles in overdrive.

Expensive waterfowl. I don't remember everything, but we had several red breasted geese, a swan of some kind, and various other ducks and geese. Then we brought back some barnacle geese and what not.

It took you a road trip to figure out your car can do 110? Shoot, I've done that already on the backroads. And I haven't pegged it out yet, but it's supposed to do over 140.

Ehh.. geese and ducks. *sigh* I thought maybe a parrot of some kind.

San Diego isn't exactly a good place to do 100+. The cops there give tickets just for looking at them funny. Not to mention most the time on the freeways unless it's 2am chances of getting up to even 40 are very slim.

We didn't take any parrots, but they guy I was travelling with has a pair of African grays, and the place we went to had a real nice parrot house with several in there that I don't remember.

San Diego is not the place for me.

Sounds like a fun job. I like the barnacle geese. They are pretty, and they keep to themselves. A lot of the geese can get real nasty.

I want to get a Timenh (think thats how it's spelled) African Grey (grey/gray..oi!). The family I visited in AZ with Puffy Dog had four greys! Course I want a severe macaw and a cockatoo too.

San Diego is a nice place to visit. They have a big rodeo in Lakeside sometime in the summer or fall (forget which). There's a real nice cowboy bar up in Carlsbad area.. a little hole in the wall and they don't serve "girly" drinks. Lots of good food in San Diego too.

Fun job? Dang.. and I just dyed my hair to get rid of the blonde.

Hrm.. I've only ever been around a couple of geese at a time, we used to feed them bread down on the golf course.

Thats what I thought. I don't argue with them anymore.. I just nod and retreat into my own little world. Saves on the sanity.

You must not have driven the right times in San Diego. I topped 90 in the rental going to the wildlife park, On I-5 I think, and most of the trip was 75-80 even by the Seaworld exit.

Now from near Folsom to Tahoe, on 50 I think, we had four lanes and a rental Mustang that made the trip a blast. We were 95+ until we hit the mountains and then we had trouble keeping it over 70 as we slid through the turns. We went to the casinos for lunch and when we went to Placerville for dinner they drove. Something about wanting to live to see dinner ... wusses. It was their own fault for telling me the CHPs had to clock you for at least 1/2 mile before they could give you a ticket. I grew up driving in mountains so I had a blast .... they grew up in the flats and did not.

Heh.. I didn't drive when the tourists were out driving.. Imostly hit rush hour traffic. My last day of work I sat in traffic for almost 5 hours to go from Kearny Mesa to National City!
