I've often been told that I'd a really good cook and I've been working hard on my gardening, so I decided to enter a few competitions at a fall fair, since we were showing rabbits there anyway. My husband, who is normally very encouraging, wasn't about this, especially my bread entry.
Anyway, I did very well despite my doubting husband.
Largest Diameter Sunflower Head: 2nd place (my entry was 12 1/2 inches across, only 1/2 an inch smaller than the winning entry - hurray for rabbit manure in the garden!
)
Tenderflake Best Pie National Competition: 2nd place (I entered a lattice-top cherry pie)
Pumpkin Pie: 2nd place
Braided Bread: 1st place
and Best Bread overall! I beat out cinnamon rolls, dinner rolls, white bread, whole wheat bread and all the other types of bread in the competion.
Did pretty well in the rabbit show, too, and my son's pet chickens both got firsts in the pet chicken class, one because she's a good representative of her breed (buff Orpinton) and the other (golden Sebright bantam) because while she isn't anywhere close to breed standards, she's a good pet and calmly sat in my son's lap so people could touch her. Kinda weird how many people were thrilled to be able to actually touch a chicken.
