is there anything we can do to kill them? What about those numeric/alpha codes you must type in the window before posting? Would that deter them? It is a pain in the ass but, they're a bigger pain in the ass.

I wish there was a simple answer as it sucks deleting them. Josh has been working on it and the change in the sign up has not even dented it.

I just found some new tools that we can try... I'll have some time next week to work on it. In the meantime, please do thank Wayne and Mr Venom for their tireless spam-deleting efforts!

Yes that's the right idea Grace. When registering these spammers can be stopped unless they are alive at the other end and not software generated.

Software can't see what is on a picture GIF etc and that is why email addresses are viewed in this way on some sites. This security update would stop it

Actually, some can. The software just incorporates a form of OCR (same as a scanner).

The only thing the spammers are interested in is placing links to their websites on these pages in order to up their page rank on search engines like google. One of the more effective things you can do is prohibit a user from posting links until they have a minimum number of posts.

You are absolutely right and this is one of several new things I will be adding to the site next week. I'm not in a good position to do it right now because I am vacationing in the Caribbean and quite honestly don't want to take the time to do it when I could be snorkeling.

We'll address this more thoroughly next week! Until then, just appreciate how much work Wayne and Mr. Venom are doing deleting spam for us all!
