Modeled after the Desert Tortoise Council, the GTC works toward wise management and perpetuation of thegopher tortoise and its natural habitats. Specific objectives of GTC include (1) offering professional advice formanagement, conservation, and protection of the tortoise, (2) encouraging the study of the life history, ecology,behavior, physiology, and management of the species, (3) conducting active public information and conservationprograms, and (4) seeking effective protection of the gopher tortoise throughout its range.
