Since the Stanislaus River campaign was launched in 1974, F.O.R. has led or supported successful campaigns tohelp protect the Tuolumne, Kings, Kern, Merced, West Walker, East Carson, upper Klamath and many otheroutstanding rivers in the federal and state wild and scenic river systems; provided interim protection for another250 rivers in California through comprehensive review of federal land management plans; defeated proposedhydroelectric projects on some of California`s finest wilderness streams; and developed fiscally andenvironmentally sound alternatives to the proposed $1 billion dollar Auburn Dam - opening the way to long termprotection for 48 miles of the North and Middle Forks of the American River.
