Detailed Information:
Red Hill Valley makes up one third of Hamilton, Ontario`s greenspace, and is the largest urban park in all of Canada. Red Hill Valley extends fron the Niagara Escarpment (recognized by the UN`s UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve because of it`s unique and endangered ecosystems) to Windermere Basin at the southeast corner of Hamilton Harbour.Through Red Hill Valley runs Red Hill Creek, Hamilton`s last of 19 rivers. This is hardly surprising since Hamilton Harbour is one of 43 ecological `hotspots` recognized by the International Joint Commission. Hamilton Harbour`s Remedial Action Plan calls for the creation of new floral, fish, and wildlife habitat to help retore water quality. At the same time as trying to restore Hamilton Harbour to at least swimmable quality, the Region of Hamilton is trying every possible means to force an expressway through the Red Hill Valley. This Expressway will cover more than 30 hectares of land, destroy more than 40 000 trees, and will cross Red Hill Creek 22 times (all in about eight kilometres). Help save our Valley. Help save your taxes. Help stop the Expressway.
