In 1991, ISEP was selected by the Austrian Ministry for theEnvironment to administer CEDAR, the Central EuropeanEnvironmental Data Request Facility. CEDAR provides computingand Internetwork facilities to support international data exchangewith the Central and Eastern European environmental community. Thein-house telecommunications infrastructure supports full TCP/IPapplications: access to and communication with remote networks and information providers (telnet, FTP, Gopher, World Wide Web) global database search and retrieval subscription lists, bulletin boards, and on-line querying of CEDAR in-house databases In 1992, CEDAR began to work with the United Nations EnvironmentalProgramme`s INFOTERRA Network, UNEP`s global information exchangeprogramme. Designated as the INFOTERRA Internet node and RegionalService Centre for Central and Eastern Europe, CEDAR is workingwith the Austrian National Focal Point (NFP) at the AustrianFederal Environmental Agency and other regional and global NFPs tosupport environmental information dissemination.
