The County is seeking final State permits to allow construction of the piers for gambling ships. The plans provide for several vessels of over 80 feet in length, with over 100 additional boat slips. Incredibly, the County intends to build a major commercial marina, specially designed to accommodate large gambling ships, right in the middle of a manatee protection zone. Even before obtaining state permits, the County has installed the first gambling ship into Haulover, and has begun to build infrastructure and utilities in the park to facilitate the plans for new major commercial facilities.
