Pakistan Vegetarian Society (PVS) established in 2001 by a few Pakistani vegetarians/vegans, is a non-profit organization run by the members of the society voluntarily with the primary objectives of promoting humanitarian, moral, and nutritional aspects of vegetarianism through all possible ways including research and education, and linking individuals and organizations that believe in the principles of vegetarianism.Pakistanis society is predominantly non-vegetarian but the Pakistan Vegetarian Society has accepted the challenge to promote the true spirit of vegetarianism by all possible means, to make the people more humane and protect the innocent animals from cruelty and struggle against the madness of meat-eating.
Pakistan Vegetarian Society has no religious affiliations and seeks to encompass a wide range of vegetarianism. Yet the PVS is very young and is trying to establish links with people with similar missions to promote the vegetarianism in its true spirit of humanitarianism.
Aims of the Society
To promote the humanitarian, moral, and nutritional aspects of vegetarianism/veganism through all possible means
To disseminate information on the benefits of vegetarianism for mankind and the environment
To link individuals and organizations that believe in the moral and humanitarian principles of vegetarianism/veganism
To provide an organized forum to the vegetarians from Pakistan to make their "humane voice" more effective, in favor of vegetarianism.
To provide support to vegetarians and all others moving in this direction
To generate public awareness of the cruelty involved in the imprisonment and killing of animals
To discourage the use of any product that has been produced or developed by harming any living creature
Activities/programs of the Society
Pakistan Vegetarian Society is yet in its developing stage, but our selected number of current members are working very hard to start some activities to promote vegetarianism in the country like Pakistan. The PVS is planning to start the following programs in near future
To hold exhibitions and talks at public areas and educational institutions to spread the awareness and benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle
To organize talks, presentations, cookery lessons, and social gatherings such as monthly dinners and visits to organic farms
The members of the PVS will be in regular contact with one another through newsletters and electronic media (like internet, etc.)
To establish regional offices in Islamabad and the capital cities of all four provinces of Pakistan viz. Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, and Peshawar
To provide medicines to relieve pains of those unattended and brutally-attended animals, like donkeys of carts, horses of Tanags (a type of Pakistani cart for carrying passengers), poultry animals, etc.
