A growing land trust originating in grassroots Wisconsin efforts, which is protecting native grasslands of the Upper Midwest, and has interest in growth to help protect native grasslands nationally, internationally and globally. Acquisition, management and education are key components in The Prairie Enthusiasts' mission.

Detailed Information:
The Prairie Enthusiasts, a land trust based currently in the Upper Midwest, is dedicated to the conservation of the last remnants of tallgrass prairie in its current geographic spanse. The Prairie Enthusiasts has protected several parcels through acquisition, and has also protected property through conservation easement and landowner agreement.

Stemming from grassroots conservation efforts of a few determined citizens in southern Wisconsin, The Prairie Enthusiasts now has over 600 members in at least 4 states. Members have backgrounds from university professor, professional ecologist and resource manager to backyard wildlife observer, recreational landowner, farmer and physician. The group holds regular membership and business meetings, an annual picnic, annual fundraiser and workshops, and many educational events such as property tours, birding outings, plant and animal tours. The group also publishes the quarterly newsletter "The Prairie Promoter".
