Detailed Information:
Located high in the Tilaran Mountains of Monteverde, Costa Rica, The Cloud Forest School, or Centro de Educación Creativa (CEC) as it is known locally, is a bilingual, school that offers experiential instruction with an emphasis on integrating environmental education into the curriculum. This private school, which sits on over 100 acres of permanently protected cloud forest land, serves students in grades preschool through 10th grade and over 90 percent of the students are Costa Rican. At the core of our goals is the need to provide the children of the region the necessary skills to negotiate the delicate balance between responsible economic development and environmental protection. We do this through an integrated environmental education curriculum and land stewardship projects. The 105 acres that make up the school’s campus is protected from development by permanent easements, and features a wealth of increasingly rare flora and fauna. Our students and volunteers are reforesting parts of our land that were previously clear-cut for pastureland.
