Detailed Information:
A common belief is that environmental protection and studies of pollution started in the 1970s. This is understandable, because studies on the environmental protection have focused on the past 20-30 years, not on the past century. The Sea and the Cities project is the first project devoted to a systematic study of the history of environmental politics, sciences and technology. The aim has been to understand the formation of contemporary environmental problems and solutions which have their roots in the past. The Sea and the Cities is multidisciplinary and international project. The web pages present the results of the project and they also give information on 14 cities on the Baltic Sea region and on three topics: environment, technology and society.
