Detailed Information:
The mission of Appalachian Voices is to protect and restore Appalachian forest ecosystems and communities by affecting public policy in relation to clean air, coal mining, public lands and private forestry. We promote direct involvement of communities and the general public in important environmental decisions that face the people of our region now and in the future. Our vision is of life in these mountains not only preserved but restored. We see functioning native ecosystems with the reintroduction of original fauna such as bear, elk, cougar, beaver, fish and wolf. We see the preservation of large corridors of contiguous forest required to provide habitat for these animal species and many more. And we see human communities leading sustainable and healthy lives as an integral part of this ecosystem.
