Detailed Information:
It is formed by short valleys which join the sea through a estuary. From the cliffs and beaches to the woods and inside rivers, going through marsh and water meadows, Urdaibai is probably formed by the most landscape diversity.
Urdaibai is a Natural Reserve although its habitats are not totally virgin, but the human being has been a part of its ecosystems. The old presence of the human being, based on subsistence economy and the auto-supplying of dispersed farms have changed the landscape for centuries.
Such a rich and complex geographic scenario needs to be preserved. Having been named Biosphere Reserve with its own legislation , it has become an appropriated place to reach the equilibrium between the biological richness and economic development. Always trying to maintain both healthy ecosystems and activities which human being carry out in the area.
