Detailed Information:
Sarah Bowler was a Junior Board member for the UNEP International Children's Conference on the Environment held in Victoria, B.C., Canada in May 2002. Concerned that delegates to the conference were contributing to global warming by their flights to the conference, she set up a system of pledges, so that each delegate to the conference promised to plant trees to compensate for the CO2 produced by their flights to the conference. Expanding on the idea, she has set up a project at home with South Yorkshire Forest Partnership, to give all travellers the opportunity to plant trees to offset the pollution caused by their journeys.
