Eco-Schools International Programme
Eco-Schools: a programme for environmental and sustainability education, environmental management and certification for schools. Involves full student participation and community action - a contribution to Local Agenda 21. In 2003, there were more than 11000 schools participating in 25 countries.

Eco-Schools offers a participatory method to engage students, teachers, staff and the local community in enviornmental and other actions for sustainability. With a large international network, there are linking websites and other online resources.
Initiated in Europe as a response to the needs identified in UNCED (Rio Earth Summit 1992) with the support of the European Commission, Eco-Schools is now a truly international programme, and under a partnership with UNEP is taking off in other world regions.
