Did you know that a gas powered lawnmower can produce as much air pollution while it runs as 73 new cars? Gas mowers don't have sophisticated emissions systems like cars, so they can put out a significant amount of air pollution even though they only have a tiny engine. Even without the air pollution issue, the US Environmental Protection Agency also estimates that Americans use 580,000,000 gallons of gasoline for lawnmowers each year.
If just 10 or 20 percent of people would reduce their lawn size by using less grass and switch to manual or electric lawnmowers, it could make a real impact on reducing air pollution and gasoline usage. Plus, it would make it a lot quieter on weekends in most neighborhoods!
