"Learning about Mountains" introduces teachers and children to outstanding lesson plans, activities, books, and more.
The guide begins with the "Explore Mountains" section, which gives teachers and children a taste of the exciting topics to be explored. This section presents simple, appealing text and graphics that invite the user in. Eleven topics of current importance in mountain regions are covered in this overview section. Each topic is enriched by up-to-date information, examples, and search links to the database. The guide offers optional "goodies" for users with fast Internet connections, including animations, slide shows, videos, and sound bytes.
The heart of the guide is the "Find a Resource" section. This growing compendium of outstanding educational resources is presented as an interactive database with easy and intuitive search functions. Each of these resources has been individually reviewed and comes with a high recommendation from a mountain educator. The guide presents teaching resources from pre-school to university level, with an emphasis on school-age children. Currently, the guide includes 300 outstanding teaching resources in 22 languages. The resources address specific mountain themes in 31 countries and 32 mountain ranges, in addition to those with a global or international mountain focus. Formats include board games, books, cassette tapes, CDs, hands-on activities, magazines, video tapes, websites, and posters.
