Detailed Information:
Our research with those organisations responsible for the development of social enterprises in their sector or region identified four key challenges, namely:
1.Social enterprises must move quickly to establish themselves as sustainable businesses. Grants will disappear to be replaced with short to medium term loans with lenders seeking reassurance that the business model will generate sufficient income to service and repay the loan.
2. Social enterprises need help in identifying new channels [or routes] to market. Accepting that many social enterprises serve their local community most will still need to improve their marketing effectiveness and others will have to broaden their appeal if they are to meet these sustainability ambitions.
3.The social enterprise community is highly fragmented and one consequence of this is real difficulty in identifying, communicating and trading with other social enterprises.
4. Some social enterprises need practical help in exploiting online opportunities for low cost marketing and inter-trading both within and beyond the social enterprise community.
