Berkshire Environmental Action Team (BEAT) works to protect the environment of Berkshire County in western Massachusetts. BEAT is a watchdog stopping pollution, protecting habitat, and ensuring laws are followed and enforced. BEAT volunteers videotape meetings with environmental implications - from conservation commission hearings to Berkshire Metropolitan Planning Organization meetings and environmental presentations. BEAT organizaes clean ups along the Housatonic River and meetings to discus environmental threats. BEAT comments on projects with environmental impacts in the Berkshires - from the St. Lawrence Cement Plant, which was stopped, to the General Electric National Pollution Discharge Elimination System draft permit, which is on going (there are still PCBs entering the Housatonic River above GE's "clean up".
