34 year old grassroots citizens organization working for environmental, social and economic justice in Tennessee. SOCM also works on national issues such as the Federal AML fund.

Beginning in the early 1970's in the coal fields of East Tennessee, SOCM members have successfully worked to pass the first State legislation ensuring greater environmental and economic justice for citizens of Tennessee affected by mining operations. SOCM continues to be a member run organization.
SOCM has members across the state and the USA who work in the areas of mining, aerial spraying, forestry issues such as clear cutting and sustainable forestry, and social justice issues such as voter rights and fair taxation structures. Members also work on other issues of local concern.
