Located on the shores of Smiling Pool and adjacent to the famous "Briar Patch" of Thornton Burgess' famous stories for children, this quiet corner of Cape Cod offers natural history exhibits, live animals, a spectacular wildflower garden and interpreted nature trails through the 57-acre Briar Patch Conservation Area. The Nature Center also offers natural history classes for all ages, nature walks, lectures and workshops. The center's naturalists serve many public and private schools each year. The Robert S. Swain Library at Green Briar offers over 1,600 volumes for study and research. The center is operated by the Thornton W. Burgess Society, a non-profit educational organization supported by membership dues and contributions.
