Detailed Information:
The WVHC has been instrumental in creation of the Monongahela National Forest Wilderness areas and in preventing the destruction of Canaan Valley. One of WVHC's current challenges is the rescue of Blackwater Canyon. The canyon was acquired by a private timber company which is doing extensive logging and appears to plan condominium development along the canyon's rim. WVHC and allied organizations are energetically campaigning for a new Blackwater Canyon National Park. WVHC is also working in vigorous opposition to coal mining by mountaintop removal.
