Detailed Information:
Established in 1941, the Thoreau Society is the oldest and largest organization devoted to an American author. A writer, philosopher, surveyor, teacher, and natural historian, Henry Thoreau is known to many as the Father of American Environmentalism. The Society's mission is to stimulate interest in Thoreau's life, works, and philosophy by publishing a quarterly newsletter, annual journal, and reprints of Thoreau-related titles; sponsoring lectures, activities, and excursions; and advocating for the preservation of Thoreau Country.
