The EERC is recognized internationally as an expert in scientifically advanced energy systems and the prevention and cleanup of air, water and soil pollution. It conducts research on waste utilization and disposal. Established as a federal research and development facility in 1951, the EERC was defederalized in 1983 and became part of the University of North Dakota. The EERC employs a multidisciplinary team of 260 scientists, engineers and support personnel. The EERC`s mission is to improve global quality of life by providing leadership in visionary multidisciplinary research and development leading to the demonstration and commercialization of innovative, clean, efficient energy technologies and of environmental technologies addressing the protection of air, water and soil.
