Detailed Information:
ARM acts as an industry watchdog to inform Colorado citizens of mining issues. We are presently invilved with an initiative to ban open-pit cyanide gold mining in Colorado. Our board consists of retired hardrock miners, ranchers, farmers, a family physician and a schoolteacher from the areas most impacted by this type of mining. Our reasons for wanting to ban this method are threefold: surface and groundwater are at risk and often contaminated, private and public property is degraded (especially downstream) and taxpayers are often left with the cleanup such as the Summitville Superfund site which has cost taxpayers over $160,000,000 so far.
