Detailed Information:
The new major is a liberal arts program aimed at educating students to be fluent in the languages of the social and physical sciences in the range of areas related to the environment, broadly construed. In addition to the requirements drawn from existing courses in the humanities, social sciences, mathematics, and sciences, two new interdisciplinary courses, designed both to introduce the field of environmental studies and to apply this knowledge in a capstone seminar emphasizing specific cases, are required. The program is developing a paid internship component, which will be coordinated with community service, industry, and on-campus research activities.
