Detailed Information:
POGO's recent investigations and public education activities have resulted in improved policies in many arenas including health, energy and the environment, airliner safety, military contracting and political elections. POGO develops policy issues by: 1) Conducting investigative research based on information provided by government inspectors, whistleblowers and community activists who have been ignored or marginalized; 2) Bringing under-reported but important issues to the attention of the media, policy-makers, public interest organizations and concerned citizens; and 3) Formulating and promoting systemic policy and oversight improvements. Originally named the Project on Military Procurement, the organization focused on military spending abuses and made outrageously overpriced spare parts such as the $7,600 coffee maker and the $1,000 pair of pliers household words. In 1990, POGO expanded its focus to include all federal agencies.
