Leadership Initiative For Earth (LIFE)

In the autumn of the year 2000, a magnificent Tall Ship will be launched on Canada’s Pacific coast. Her name will be LIFEship. Her life's mission will be to inspire a new generation of leaders — leaders of a new century whose greatest challenge will be finding ways for humanity to live in partnership with the natural world.

Detailed Information:
LIFEship 2000 is a millennium project of Leadership Initiative For Earth (LIFE). It is a two-year initiative that will directly involve thousands of people in the construction of an ecologically-built Tall Ship. The 80-foot wooden ship will be built in Vancouver using timbers selectively harvested from forests in British Columbia. Environmentally-friendly technologies will be used for functions such as energy generation, propulsion and waste management. To be launched in the year 2000, the LIFEship will serve as LIFE's expedition ship — travelling the outdoor classrooms of the ocean world, teaching people about ecology, sustainability and leadership. Several hundred young people, working together with mentors in forest and in shipyard, will take the central role in creating this tangible and important millennium legacy. These youth will learn about sustainability in action as they make the connections between the ship and the Earth from whence she comes.
