The International Energy Agency was established in 1974 as an autonomous agency within theOrganization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to carry out a program of energycooperation among its 23 member countries. An important part of the Agency`s program involves collaboration in the research, development anddemonstration of new energy technologies in order to reduce dependence on oil, increase long-termenergy security, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The IEA`s R and D activities are headed bythe Committee on Energy Research and Technology (CERT) and supported by home towns and neighborhoods. EWG specializes in developing and analyzing large, computerized databases of environmental and economic information. EWG has conducted research on drinking water contamination, pesticides in food and water, political campaign contributions, anti-environmental organizations, farm subsidies, and wetlands protection laws, among other issues.me towns and neighborhoods.
