Detailed Information:
This series of audio documentaries features the voices of Earth scientists, ecologists, local naturalists, aboriginal people, and of other committed citizens of planet Earth. Accompanied by music -- much of it original -- they speak about the special places where they live, the geology and natural history of these places, the impact of development, and about what they are doing to preserve and protect their local environment. Subjects covered in this series of 32 1-hour audio documentaries include the geological history of planet Earth, extinction, Earth`s cycles, sustainable development, aboriginal concepts of land use, the impact of European settlement on the New World, the ecology of forests and the impact of agriculture on the Canadian prairies. Local focus episodes examine the Niagara escarpment, the Canadian Rockies, Clayoquot Sound and other special places across Canada.
