Detailed Information:
WashBAC was founded in 1990 to promote awareness of some of the drawbacks of biotechnology and the faudulent ways in which it is being depicted by its promoters as a miraculous new technology. WashBAC tries to educate the public about the risks and limitations of recombinant DNA research, especially in the areas of insurance and discrimination, food safety, risky research, government subsidy of private research, bio-piracy, and reductionist thinking. Some of our members, such sd Prof. Philip Bereano of the University of Washington, are influential in writing, giving interviews, testifying at hearings, and working at the international level on issues concerning biotechnology.
