Detailed Information:
Conservation International (CI) is confident that when planned and implemented properly, ecotourism can be both an effective conservation tool and a successful community development model. CI uses a community-based approach to tourism development, which can be a part of a successful conservation strategy. CI ensures that local communities benefit from tourism by assisting them in establishing and managing their own ecotourism businesses. These businesses create jobs that directly depend on a healthy environment, and can motivate people to protect their surroundings. CI has found that people who earn their living from ecotourism are likely to defend their natural resources against more destructive activities, such as logging or mining.
