Detailed Information:
The Heathrow Association for the Control of Aircraft Noise - HACAN - is the world`s largest anti-noise group. We campaign to preserve the quality of life for those living around Heathrow. The problems caused by Heathrow include not only the all-pervasive noise, but also air pollution, traffic congestion and the fear of a major disaster. We work with all political parties but are aligned to none. We draw attention to the expansion plans for Heathrow and the detrimental impact these will have if unchecked. For politicians to act the public pressure must be greater than commercial pressures. HACAN exists to mobilize the public. HACAN has helped to make aircraft noise a burning issue and radically altered official attitudes to the whole problem. Now the authorities know they cannot ignore it, much as they would like to.
