The Desert Foothills Scenic Drive in Scottsdale, Arizona identifies and preserves roadside Sonoran Desert Plants. Our site provides information on the history of the drive and efforts to preserve and enhance it. Once a two lane road through the empty desert, the drive is four lanes linking Scottsdale, Cave Creek and Carefree, resorts, golf, horseback riding and attractions such as Heard Museum North and The Boulders. Signs - easily seen from a moving car - identify common native species. More than 20 types of succulents, cacti, trees and flowers are exhibited including: Saguaro, Cholla, Palo Verde, Mesquite, Barrel Cactus and Ironwood. Bus tours heading to north to Sedona and Grand Canyon often take this route. There is a small visitor area where visitors can enjoy the open desert. We are currently creating an exhibit at this area.
