The Population and Sustainable Development Program (PSD)seeks to fill gaps in the research and scientific basis which informs policymakers, academics, and others on issues of global environemntal change. For example, PSD researches interactions between human populations and protected areas rich in biodiversity. From these studies, linkages which cause environmentally destructive and unsustainable practices can be identified, weakened, and eventually decoupled in the local and national policy arenas.
