Detailed Information:
The purpose of the Superfund Act is to provide forliability, compensation, cleanup, and emergency response forhazardous substances released into the environment, as well ascleanup of inactive, hazardous waste disposal sites.BNL was placed on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency`s(EPA) National Priorities List in 1989. This is a list ofhazardous waste sites that are considered high priority forinvestigation and cleanup, as appropriate. In addition, BNL isincluded on the New York State Department of EnvironmentalConservation`s (DEC) List of Inactive Hazardous Waste DisposalSites.
